Judy Garland broke into the world of entertainment quite young, appearing in vaudeville with her sisters as a teenager. By the time she turned 17, she starred in one of the most important films in cinematic history, The Wizard of Oz (1939). Her role of Dorothy Gale in the iconic film propelled Garland to superstardom, and she became one of Hollywood’s brightest stars - The American Film Institute ranks her 8th on its list of Greatest Female Stars. Her other classic movie credits include Meet Me in St. Louis, Easter Parade (1948), The Harvey Girls (1946), A Star Is Born (1954) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). In addition to acting, Judy possessed a wonderful singing voice with incredible range that sustained her throughout her career, and she continued to sellout auditoriums up until the time of her passing.

Despite being one of the most accomplished stars we’ve ever seen, Judy Garland’s life off-stage and off-camera was troubled, and quite tragic, she having passed in 1969 at the young age of 47. Garland’s signature is scarce and in high-demand, and most of the signed photos we see surface in the marketplace are not certified by a trusted third party authentication company. Thus, authentic specimens of the late star, like the one offered here, are extremely tough - especially on original studio photos.
This particular 8x10 headshot is an original studio production photograph from 1967’s Valley of the Dolls. Interestingly enough, Garland either quit or was let-go (there is still no definitive answer) from the production prior to filming for “personal reasons”. It was her last credited role, despite not actually appearing in the film, hence making this signed photo quite posibly unique.
