United States Pre-1965 “Junk” Silver (90%)
Before 1965, U.S. half dollars, quarters and dimes were composed of 90% silver. These coins are termed “Junk” silver because of the circulated condition of the coins. After the U.S. left the silver standard, the price of silver has increased dramatically (1964= 1.293/oz.). Therefore, at today’s silver price, “junk silver” has significantly increased more than its face value. “Junk” silver is traded as individual coins and bags as large as $1,000 face value (715 pure ounces).
